Class 9-12 Scholarship Program

In recognition of our 40 year anniversary and the commencement of Class 12, we are pleased to release a new scholarship program, to support young people as they complete high school and prepare for the world ahead.
We believe every student deserves the chance to complete their education in a setting that supports their unique strengths, strengthens their capacities, and allows exploration of their individuality. These scholarships aim to make Steiner education accessible to young people who feel drawn to our approach, but have not yet had the opportunity to take part.

Scholarship Categories

Scholarships provide between 50-100% off tuition fees and are intended to support students from Class 9 through to Class 12*.

Steps to Apply

  1. Read the scholarship information below
  2. Submit your scholarship application
  3. Send all supporting documentation by 21 January.
  4. Watch your emails. In early January we will shortlist applicants, confirm interview times, and send any parent/guardian documentation.
  5. Complete the Parent/Guardian Documentation
    • TAWS Enrolment Form
    • Access & Equity Application
    • Parent/Guardian Scholarship Commitment Form
  6. Attend an interview. Term 1 interviews will be held on 27 January. To be attended by both the Scholarship Applicant and their Parent/Guardian.
  7. Receive your outcome
  8. Accept and enrol!
  9. Begin your journey at the Armidale Waldorf School in Term 1

Scholarship Categories

For students who show kindness, integrity, responsibility and care towards others and the natural world.

Scholarship Value: 50-100% off tuition fees.

Tuition fees include all compulsary camps, excursions, incursions etc. It does not include items that typically fall outside of tuition fees (e.g. maintenance levy or personal items such as hats and camping equipment).

We welcome applications from students who recognise themselves in one or more of the following qualities:

  • contribute positively to their community, at home, school, cultural groups, sport or local activities
  • show a willingness to help others and act with consideration, kindness or responsibility
  • demonstrate care for the environment through awareness, action or personal interest
  • show a developing ability to reflect on their values and how these influence their choices
  • are growing in empathy, initiative and steady contribution to the people and places around them

Eligibility

  • Australian citizen
  • entering Class 9 or Class 10 in 2026 and intending to finish Class 12
  • not currently enrolled at The Armidale Waldorf School
  • student and family are committed school engagement and agree to any scholarship conditions
Below are ideas to help shape your written response:

  • How would a scholarship benefit your personal and educational goals?
  • Describe a time when you helped someone or supported your community.

    What motivated you, and what did you learn from the experience?

  • Tell us why nature is meaningful to you. What significance does it have in your life, and why do you think it matters?
  • Who is a community or environmental leader you admire? What qualities do they show, and how do they inspire you?

Written responses must be the original work of the applicant. Handwritten responses are preferred. They can be submitted by PDF, hard copy (deliver to Reception), or scanned image.

The Scholarship review panel will assess the below merit indicators for the Community and Environment Scholarship:

  • Contributes positively to their community and shows a willingness to help others in school, family, cultural or local settings.

  • Demonstrates an interest and care for the environment.
  • Demonstrates a developing capacity to reflect on their personal values and consider how these influence their choices.
  • Demonstrates growing leadership skills such as being a positive influence on their peers and willing to take initiative in and outside the classroom.

  4. Prepare for an interview, this will be a casual meeting with the Scholarship Review Panel and questions will focus on the merit indicators. Term 1 Interviews will be held on Tuesday 27 January.
  5. Prepare any additional work examples. These can be brought to your interview.

Parents and Guardians:

When an applicant is shortlisted, parent/guardian will be provided the below to complete prior to interview.

  1. TAWS Enrolment Application
  2. Access and Equity Application (required to confirm the scholarship value).
  3. Parent/Guardian Statement of Alignment. Confirming parent/guardians’ willingness to support the applicant through their Waldorf education and the expectations of participation in school life.
Applicants for the Community and Environment Scholarship are required to submit:
  1. Completed scholarship application
  2. A written response demonstrating your alignment with the merit indicators. Simple, authentic examples that show responsibility, reflection, initiative, or care for others are encouraged. Submissions may include experiences from school, family life, cultural groups, employment, volunteering or local community activities. It must be the original work of the applicant and reflective of their individual voice.
  3. 1-3 work examples. These can be something you’ve made, designed, written, researched or created. It does not need to be a major project; simple, genuine examples are valued. You will also have the opportunity to bring a work examples to your interview.
  4. A character reference (or contact details). From a teacher, mentor, coach or community leader who can speak to how to align to the criteria of the scholarship. Where a written reference is not available before application closing date, contact details will be accepted.
  5. Recent School Report (minimum 1).

If you are shortlisted, parent/guardian will also need to submit:

Students who approach learning with curiosity, imagination and originality.

  • show authentic interest, curiosity and self-motivation

The Scholarship review panel will assess the below merit indicators for the Creative Thinker Scholarship:

  • Demonstrates ongoing commitment to a personal field of interest such as design, handwork, environment, arts or technology.
  • Expresses themselves through creative projects that demonstrate imagination, initiative and thoughtful engagement.
  • Display originality in thinking and problem-solving, with a willingness to question and explore ideas independently.
  • Demonstrate growing leadership skills such as being a positive influence on their peers and willing to take initiative in and outside the classroom.

  4. A character reference (or contact details). From a teacher, mentor, coach or community leader who can speak to how to align to the criteria of the scholarship. Where a written reference is not available before application closing date, contact details will be accepted.

Recognises students who embody Head, Heart and Hands — balanced academic engagement, creativity, and social contribution.

Scholarship Value: 70-100% off tuition fees.

Tuition fees include all compulsary camps, excursions, incursions etc. It does not include items that typically fall outside of tuition fees (e.g. maintenance levy or personal items such as hats and camping equipment).

  • Demonstrates academic engagement and depth of thought with an interest in understanding the ‘why’ behind their learning.
  • Takes ownership of their learning, pride in self-directed goals, and awareness of their personal development.
  • Show developing leadership, responsibility and compassion for others
  • Demonstrates creativity, social responsibility, care for the natural world and alignment with TAWS values
  • Positively contributes to the school community and participates in school events and activities.

Eligibility

  • Shows commitment to the school community through developing leadership, responsibility, compassion for others, and a willingness to be involved in school activities.
  • Reflects TAWS values such as creativity, social responsibility and environmental awareness.
  • Demonstrates growing leadership skills such as being a positive influence on their peers and willing to take initiative in and outside the classroom.

Considerations for all scholarships

The scholarship review panel will take the below into consideration for all applicants:

  • Commitment to Learning Reflected in school reports, attendance and character references, with emphasis on individual growth, curiosity and the willingness to meet challenges with steady effort.
  • Commitment to School Community The recipient and their family are to engage fully in school life, including participation in camps and community events, uphold the school’s enrolment expectations and any scholarship conditions.
  • Leadership Potential shown through positive influence on peers and younger students, willingness to take initiative, and demonstrated care for others and for the environment.
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander we are committed to reconciliation and supporting equitable education. Applicants who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander are encouraged to apply.
  • Access and Inclusion contextual information such as the family’s financial capacity, recent hardship, cultural background, parent education or occupation, health impacts and family responsibilities.

These scholarships value the unique individuality of each applicant. We warmly welcome applications from students with diverse backgrounds and life experiences.

Scholarship Conditions

* Applications will be assessed by the scholarship review panel, in accordance with the TAWS Scholarship Policy. Final scholarship value is determined by the scholarship type, and weighted consideration to access and equity indicators.

Applicants and their parent/guardian(s) will be required to provide supporting documentation and agree to the expectations of the scholarship program.

Ongoing eligibility for the scholarship is dependent on the student and their family maintaining alignment with the program expectations, including their ongoing commitment to school life, and the school’s capacity to maintain the scholarship. Scholarships are intended for up to 4 academic years (Class 9-12), with a review for eligibility and capacity to offer a scholarship reveiewed annually.
